The Different between Supermoto and Supermotard
A lot of people tend to think a supermoto is different from a supermotard, while it is easy to think they are totally different bikes, they are actually not. The word Motard is a French word which means motorcyclist. This bike was first manufactured in France in the 1980s. A supermotard is a dirt bike with street bike wheels, tires with large installed front brakes. This bike has been repurposed for the street with a 17” wheels and sticky sports tires, they are light, nimble machines that can handle jumps, ride through trails and corner at extreme lean angles. Not only do they do well on pavements, twisty mountain roads, and dirt, but the world of bike riding also becomes a world of possibilities. These bikes challenge even the most seasoned riders, they are versatile, affordable and unusual. You might think these bikes only appeal to certain type of riders, but the truth is, if you are adventurous, spontaneous and you are not afraid to try new stuff, then this is for you. Here are five reasons to own a supermoto or supermotard.
Supermoto is great on mountain roads or pavements, looking to try them on smooth roads, they would do perfectly well too, they have stayed true to the purpose of manufacturing them. You can jump, cruise, race, stunt, crash and even off-road with these bikes. This bike handles everything superbly. A supersport does great at cornering, a supersport is best at jumping, but supermoto does it all.
Driving slow is okay.
On supermoto bikes, driving slowly is fun. Most seasoned riders often get their thrills on a bike when they exceed the speed limit, so basically almost every rider is guilty of riding slowly sometimes. When your rear wheel is backed into a street corner, or you find yourself drifting out a dirt road, this bike would give you an unrivaled feedback and a higher confidence level to push above your limits.
Racing days are affordable, they do not put a hole in your pocket to participate. The tires of a supermoto are made to last much more than a season. These bikes are low weight with really large brake discs that allow for superfluous braking and unbelievable stopping distances. If you have one of those overzealous days with the throttle, you see the front wheel defiling gravity. Not only is this bike a beast while racing, going through the most choky traffic jams or getting around any form of the obstacle is a piece of cake.
You can’t have a supermoto and not explore or be spontaneous. No terrain ’s off limits, and there’s no need to ride within the lines. They are relatively inexpensive to crash, if you ride a regular motorcycle and you have ever had a crash, you would agree to fix would cost or fortune, and that is if it is fixable but with a supermoto, you might either have very minimal fixing or nothing at all.
